1-5 November 2013 Istanbul

Pugwash Conferences are organized by Pugwash International since 1957, bringing together, from around the world, influential scholars and public figures concerned with reducing the danger of armed conflict and seeking cooperative solutions for global problems.

60th Pugwash Conference on Science & World Affairs has been organized on 1-5 November 2013 in Istanbul-Turkey with SAM's assistance and valuable contributions as well as participation by the Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and several departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey.

The opening day of the conference has taken place in Adile Sultan Palace. During the first day activities  of the conference, President of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mr. Abdullah Gül honored the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. After President Gül's speech, the opening session was conducted in the form of a panel with the participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran H.E. Mr. Mohammed Javad Zarif. Participating Esteemed Ministers made their speeches and answered questions of the audience during that session.

The conference continued in Mövenpick Hotel after the first day. During those days, more than 200 prominent guests including active or retired high-level politicians and bureaucrats, scientists, academicians and members of media attended to a series of sessions, and make presentations and speeches on several issues on global agenda.

Participants also attended to subject-specific working groups during second, third and fourth days of the conference, and found opportunity to exchange and debate opinions with other interested participants in smaller groups.
