12-13 November 2012 Rome, Italy

The Forum activities between Turkey and Italy at ministerial level has been organized by SAM and UniCredit since 2004. The 9th Turkish-Italian Forum took place on 12-13 November 2012 in Rome.

The Forum activities gathers together Turkish and Italian politicians, businesman, academics, media representatives, intellectuals and NGO representatives with the  aim to enhance both countries comprehension of each other and to carry the cooperation understanding within the framework of common and bilateral issues and our EU perspective to a more advanced level.

The inaugural speeches of the Forum were made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mesut Özcan, Deputy Chairman of SAM and Guiseppe Scognamiglio, Head of Public Affairs of UniCredit.

H.E. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Amb. Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs participated at the “Turkey and EU: Turkish and Italian Perspectives” panel chaired by Emma Bonino, Vice President of the Italian Senate.

Dr. Ömer Bolat, former Chairman of the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lokman Gündüz, Board Member of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Giuliano Amato, President of UniCredit’s International Advisory Board, Vittorio Da Rold, Senior International correspondent at Il Sole 24 ore expressed their views on “The impact of the Eurozone crisis on Turkey, Italy and the Mediterrean” at the open door session presided Paolo Magri, Executive Vice-President and Director of ISPI.

On the second day of the Forum, a closed door roundtable discussion entitled “Italy and Turkey in the Mediterranean: Exploring Joint Economic and Political Projects in the Region” was held under the chairmanship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mesut Özcan and (R.) Ambassador Vincenzo Petrone, President of Simest.

H.E. Hakkı Akil, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Italy hosted a reception in honour of the Turkish delegation. A tribute concert for the cooperation between Turkish, Italian and European culture by opera artists Simge Büyükedes, Cristina Melis, Alessandro Scotto Di Luzio ve Gezim Myshketa was performed during the Turkish-Italian Forum at the Musei Capitolini.
