18-20 November 2013 Yalova, Edirne, Bursa, Bandırma, Ankara

A series of panels in the framework of the “Azerbaijan Week”, jointly organized by SAM and the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan, took place in Edirne, Yalova, Bursa, Bandırma and Ankara, on 18-20 November 2013.

The Azerbaijani delegation was represented by Dr. Ferhad Mammadov, Director of SAM, Dr. Cavid Veliyev, Principal Research Fellow at SAM, MP Prof. Musa Qasımlı, Hatem Cabbarlı The Head of Analytical Information Department at Milli Majlis, Dr. Zaur Veliyev A Principal Research Fellow at SAM, Araz Aslanlı, Director of  QafqazSAM and Vugar Mesumoğlu, the Director of APA broadcasting service. The Turkish side was represented by Prof. Bülent Aras, Sabancı University, Prof. Dr. Göksel İşyar, Uludağ University, Şenol Gürşan, Deputy of Kırklareli, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Pirinççi and Assist. Prof. Dr. Murat Yeşiltaş both Advisors at SAM.

Within the framework of the event, Governor of Bursa, Münir Karaloğlu, Governor of Edirne, Hasan Duruer, Governor of Yalova, Esengül Civelek, Mayor of Bursa Municipality Recep Altepe, Rector of Uludağ University, Prof. Dr. Kamil Dilek, Rector of Trakya University, Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük, Rector of Yalova University, Niyazi Eruslu were visited at their offices.

The panels were moderated by Prof. Dr. Tayyar Arı at Uludağ University, Prof. Dr. Sibel Turan at Trakya University, Prof. Dr. Kenan Dağcı at Yalova University and Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Ercan Yılmaz at Balıkesir University, Bandırma Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Issues on “Azerbaijan-Turkey Relations”, “Turkish Foreign Policy and Azerbaijan”, “Turkey’s Policy about Nagorno-Karabakh” and “What happens to the foreign policy of Azerbaijan?” were addressed.

A round table meeting moderated by Assoc. Prof. Mesut Özcan, Acting Chairman of SAM, was held on the last day of the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Ankara.

The importance of coaxiality in accordance with both countries’ interests in international meetings was emphasized and issues like enhancing the current cooperation and jointly organizing events which help to better understand each other were underlined.

Following the meeting, SAM hosted a lunch at Ankara Palas in honor of the delegation. Press representatives from Ankara were also present at the lunch.
