A workshop entitled “Bridging Distances Between Turkey and Mauritania” was held in cooperation by the Institute of Strategic Thinking (SDE), University of Nouakchott and Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA) on 8th October, 2013 in Mauritania with support of Presidency of Turks Abroad and Related Communities, the Public Diplomacy Coordinator’s Office and Center for Strategic Research (SAM).
Before the workshop, some official visits took place consisting in Turkish Embassy in Nouakchott, University of Nouakchott, Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA), President of Mauritania Parliament, President of Mauritania Senate and lastly Turkish School in Nouakchott.
The Turkish delegation was represented by H.E. Musa Kulaklıkaya, Ambassador of Turkey, Mehmet Köse, Vice President of Presidency of Turks Abroad and Related Communities, Fatih Şahin, Deputy of Ankara, Prof. Dr. Yasin Aktay, Director of SDE, Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Uysal, Coordinator of SDE Middle Eastern Studies and Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Doğan in the workshop hosted by Nouakchott University and Ecole Nationale and d’Administration, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdellahi, Director of Nouakchott University and Sidi Mahmoud, Director of ENA and several academicians, journalists.
Within the framework of the workshop, political, economic, cultural and academic dimensions of Turkish-Mauritanian relations, sharing Turkish democracy experiences with Mauritania were discussed. In addition to these, need to strengthen relations on the basis of economy and to support in the field of development were the topics discussed during the workshop.
