The biennial report of Challenges Forum initiative, which was formed in 1996 to generate ideas about the decision-making, implementation and evaluation processes of peacemaking operations (PKO) and bring those ideas to the attention of UN and stakeholding countries, was launched at a special high-level seminar held on 26-28 January 2015 at UN Secretariat in New York. The final version of report can be reached here.
The report under the title of “Designing Mandates and Capabilities for Future Peace Operations” was presented to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon by Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström before the opening ceremony of the event, which was attended by around 150 representatives from 48 countries' government agencies and international organizations working on peacekeeping issues, including 21 partner countries of the forum as well as SAM and Turkish Land Forces from Turkey.
During the meeting, several speeches and presentations were delivered on divulging details from the report, including possible measures to ensure efficiency and productivity of ongoing and future PKO's, and propositions to be brought before the special advisory panel formed by UN Department of Peacekeeping at the order of UN Secretary General.
This meeting also served as the launching point for initial propositions on the next report of the Forum, which is planned to be prepared during the next biennial cycle through further partners’ meetings in 2015-2016.
