On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of World War I, a conference entitled “100 Years From the World War I” was conducted in Sofia on 31st October 2014. The conference was organized by SAM and Diplomatic Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria with the significant contribution of Directorate General for the Balkans and Central Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and Turkish Embassy in Bulgaria.
Prof. Dr. Neşe Özden from Ankara University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Birgül Demirtaş from TOBB University of Economics and Technology and advisor of SAM, Mrs. Tanya Mihaylova, Director of the Diplomatic Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, Prof. Dr. Alexander Kostov and Dr. Kalina Paeva from Bulgarian Academy of Science, Dr. Valantin Katrandjiev and PhD Marian Karagyozov from Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute, Prof. Dr. Jordan Baev from National Defense Academy and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sonya Hinkova from New Bulgarian University participated to the conference of which the opening speech was realized by Ambassador of Turkey to Bulgaria H.E. Süleyman Gökçe.
In the first session entitled “Historical Aspects of World War I in the Balkan Region”, defense of Dobruja and the two countries' relations as allies during the war were evaluated. In the following session, economic, political, social, cultural and diplomatic aspects of the two countries’ relations were discussed in detail.
