Held in cooperation between SAM and Tokyo-based Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF), Assoc. Prof. Mesut Özcan (Diplomacy Academy Director), Ufuk Ulutaş (SETA Research Director) and Assoc. Prof. Kılıç Buğra Kanat (SETA-Washington DC Research Director) addressed a conference entitled “Syrian Conflicts and Turkish Response: Foreign Policy, Refugees and Security” in Tokyo on 15 April 2016. The conference was attended by an audience of around 200 people.
In the first session of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Mesut Özcan shared his views on transformation in MENA region, Turkey's relations with new governments and migration flows due to instability in the region. In the second session, Ufuk Ulutaş commented on dimension of Turkey's policies towards the Syrian conundrum and Assoc. Prof. Kılıç Buğra Kanat evaluated the reasons behind the growing Syrian refugee flows and Turkey's positions vis-a-vis this issue.
