The international conference entitled “Great Silk Road Diplomacy: From History to the Future” jointly organised by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Diplomacy Academy of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and supported by SAM was held on 14-16 March 2003 in Ashgabat.
Rashid Meredov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Dr. Serdar Çam, President of TIKA were among those who made the opening speeches of the conference.
Over 70 academics from 21 different countries expressed their views in four panels on political, security, economic and cultural dimensions of the Silk Road Region.
The conference was consummated by the reception hosted by H.E. Şevki Mütevellioğlu, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Ashgabat with the partake of participants of the conference, chief of diplomatic missions, and Turkmenistan’s high level bureaucrats including the Minister of Education and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
