SAM and Foundation of Political, Economic and Social Research (SETAV) from Turkey, Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD) from Serbia, Development Research Center under State Council of China (DRC) engaged in cooperation under aegis of the Prime Ministry of the Republic of Turkey, to hold an international conference titled "Silk Roads: Inspirations and Opportunities" on 11-12 December 2014 in İstanbul Conrad Hotel.

The conference was attended by a host of important figures from political and academic lifes of countries on the historical route of Silk Road, including Minister and President of DRC H.E. Mr. Li Wei, President of CIRSD, former Foreign Minister of Serbia and former President of General Assembly H.E. Mr. Vuk Jeremic, Deputy Minister and Foreign Minister of Montenegro H.E. Mr. Igor Luksic, former Prime Minister of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Shaukat Aziz, Macedonian Minister of Transport H.E. Mr. Mile Janakievski, former Foreign Minister of Spain H.E. Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos Cuyaube, and Albanian Deputy Minister of Energy and Industry H.E. Mr. Dorian Duçka.

On the first day of the event (11 December), SAM Chairman Prof. Ali Resul Usul held a bilateral meeting with DRC President Li Wei in attendance of their respective delegations. Chinese Ambassador in Ankara H.E. Yu Hongyang and Chinese Consul General in İstanbul Hon. Gu Jingqi, as well as administrative staff of SETA İstanbul office also stood present at the meeting. During the meeting, heads of two institutions confirmed their mutual desire to develop relations with a globally oriented perspective. DRC President Li Wei stipulated the importance attached by Chinese authorities towards fostering closer interactions with other significant actors and to further contribute to the global currents, and noted the importance of this conference as the first large-scale international event partnered by DRC.

At the evening of the first day, a gala dinner was held at the honour of the incoming delegations from 10 countries. During the dinner, SAM Chairman Prof. Usul recited Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu's message to the audience, and later CIRSD President Jeremic also took the stage and gave a speech.

The conference on the second day of the event (12 December) was opened with the message from Prime Minister H.E. Prof. Ahmet Davutoğlu, which was delivered to the audience by Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Prof. Emine Nur Günay. Other guest ministers including Mr. Jeremic, Mr. Li Wei and Mr. Luksic, as well as SAM Chairman Prof. Usul, SETA General Coordinator Prof. Burhanettin Duran, and Ambassador of China in Ankara H.E. Mr. Yu Hongyang also gave speeches in the opening session.

The conference proceeded with sessions dedicated to multiple aspects and aims of the Silk Road project with participation of high level politicians, academics and experts from Turkey and other incoming delegations. The program was concluded with a special closing session, featuring speeches by former Prime Minister of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Shaukat Aziz and former Foreign Minister of Spain H.E. Miguel Angel Moratinos Cuyaube, as well as world-renowned sinologist and Director of Center of Development Studies Prof. Peter Hugh Nolan, and Vice President of DRC Mr. Zhang Junkuo.
