As agreed with the Center for Strategic Research under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, SAM organized a series of panels on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence, on October 25-November 1 at Iğdır University, Karadeniz Technical University, Atatürk University and Kafkas University. Along with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence, the celebration activities aimed to examine the history of bilateral relations and to exchange ideas for the future of the relations. In this respect the following points were covered during the panels:
- Political and economic relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan
- Common policies that might be pursued for the Armenian question and the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
- Impact of regional developments on bilateral relations
- Impact of media on bilateral relations
Prof. Dr. Bülent Aras, Chairman of SAM, attended the panel in Iğdır University as a speaker.
The last panel was held on November 1, 2011 at Selçuk University in Konya. The following issues were highlighted in this forum: the existence of common bilateral problems and the importance of common policy-making for the solution of these common problems, the potential importance of using soft power for the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, the positive impact of the BTC oil pipeline and BTE natural gas pipeline on bilateral economic relations and the potential positive impact of the joint projects of the Trans-Anatolia Pipeline and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway on bilateral economic relations.
