A workshop was organized by SAM and SIIS on the topic of “Turkish and Chinese Perspectives on Eurasia and Middle East” on 12 February 2014 at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The workshop was moderated by SAM Chairman Mesut Özcan with participation of SIIS Delegation which was represented by Prof. Dr. Yang Jiemian, Prof. LI Weijian, YE Qing, JIN Liangxiang, LIU Xin, ZHOU Yiqi, as well as Prof. Selçuk Çolakoğlu, Prof. Oktay Tanrısever, Dr. Ceren Ergenç, representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Public Diplomacy Coordination Office and Yunus Emre Institute.
During the workshop, rise of East Asia and impacts of emergence of the region on world politics, energy issues, development of Silk Road Economic Region, Turkey and China’s policies towards Eurasia and Middle East and their relations with the countries of the region, upcoming CICA Summit and China’s chairmanship of CICA and political, economic and cultural aspects of bilateral relations between Turkey and China were discussed. Furthermore, the ongoing crises in Syria and the possible ways of solution were evaluated. The SIIS delegation also met with high level authorities from CICA Task Force and Deputy Directorate General for Policy Planning.
The participants shared their ideas and suggestions, and responded to various questions from each other during the Q&A segments at the end of every session.
