A roundtable meeting on "The Current Situation and Challenges in Middle East" was organized on 28 February 2014 at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was moderated by SAM Chairman Assoc. Prof. Mesut Özcan with participation of Japan Institute of International Relations (JIIA) which was represented by Prof. Ryoji Tateyama, Research Fellow Dr. Mari Nukii, Dr. Teruaki Moriyama, and Dr. Kohei Imai, as well as Dr. Sevinç Alkan Özcan, Advisor of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Dr. Muhittin Ataman from Abant İzzet Baysal University, Dr. Bahadır Pehlivantürk from TOBB ETU University,  Dr. Mehmet Özkan, Researcher at Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA) and representatives from relevant Syria, Iran and Middle East departmants of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the current status on several crises and challenges in Middle East such as Syria, Iran and Egypt, as well as latest developments in The Middle East Peace Process and their reflections on Turkish and Japanese Foreign Policies were discussed in detail by participating academicians and members of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
