SAM hosted a workshop in cooperation with the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) on 2 December 2014 in Ankara. Prominent researchers, academics and diplomats attended the workshop which featured the continuation of corporate links established by Memorandum of Understanding signed on 19 March 2013. PISM delegation was comprised of Amb. Andrzej Ananicz, Senior Fellow at PISM, Dr. Jarosław Ćwiek-Karpowicz, Head of Research at PISM, Dr. Patrycja Sasnal, Head of MENA project at PISM, Pınar Elman, Analyst at PISM and Dr. Jakub Wódka, Policy Planning Department of Poland Foreign Ministry. SAM Chairman Prof. Ali Resul Usul, Diplomacy Academy Director Assoc. Prof. Mesut Özcan, Prof. Ersel Aydınlı of Bilkent University, Prof. Selçuk Çolakoğlu of Yildirim Beyazit University, Dr. Mustafa Kutlay of TOBB University of Economics Technology attended the Workshop as SAM delegation.
During the Workshop, participants exchanged views on revitalization of Turkey-EU relations, current setbacks in Turkey's negotiation process and possible outcomes. The workshop presented a floor to debate on imminent challenges such as migration, extremism and terrorism stemming from the current instability in the Middle East, as well. Moreover, participants shared their opinions about latest Russian involvement in Syria and prospects on economic cooperation in wider Eurasia, namely Silk Road Economic Belt.
Within the margins of their visit, PISM delegation attended a briefing on recent developments in the Middle East at Middle Eastern Center for Strategic Studies (ORSAM) and paid a visit to Directorate General of Migration Management under Ministry of Interior.
