The panel entitled "The Changing Middle East and Turkish Foreign Policy" was organised on 8 January 2014 by The Institute of Strategic Thinking in Ankara .
In the first session of the panel, the participants gave speeches on "The Arab Spring at its 3rd year", "Place of Middle East in World Politics", "Iran and West Rapprochement" and "The Future of Egypt and Syria". Assoc. Prof. Mesut Özcan Chairman of SAM , Prof. Bülent Aras Sabancı University and Advisor of SAM , Assoc. Prof. Şaban Kardaş Advisor at the Diplomacy Academy, Assoc. Prof. Mehmet Şahin from Gazi University and Cemalettin Haşimi Coordinator of Prime Ministry Office of Public Diplomacy delivered their speeches on "Turkish Foreign Policy" at the second session.
During the panel, the changing dynamics in the Middle East and its reflection on Turkish foreign policy were discussed in detailed. In his speech entitled “The Middle East Dimension of Turkish Foreign Policy”, Assoc. Prof. Mesut Özcan underlined the changing elements in Turkish foreign policy, regional initiatives and new actors as an outcome of the appearance of new instruments in international relations.
