The second meeting of “Turkey-Korea Cooperation Dialogue” process was held on 30 November 2012 in the Turkish MFA headquarter. This year’s theme of the meeting organised by the coordination of the respective ministries of foreign affairs of both countries was the “Significance of Establishing the Strategic Partnership between Turkey and Korea and Future Direction”.
Academics, bureaucrats, experts and business people from Turkey and South Korea participated to the round table sessions where political, economic/commercial and social/cultural bilateral relations analysed.
Opening speeches were given by Fikri Işık, Deputy and Head of the Turkey- Korea Interparliamentary Friendship Group, Dr. Mesut Özcan, Deputy Chairman of SAM, Esra Cankorur, Deputy Director-General for the East Asia and Pacific of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Lee Sangkyu, South Korea’s Ambassador to Turkey, Lee Wookheon, Director-General for European Affairs of the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Park Chansook, former MP and chairman of the Korean-Turkish Friendship Association.
Three sessions of the round table meeting were culture, economics and politics in which “promotion of cultural cooperation and exchanges between Korea and Turkey”, “prospects for the bilateral economic and trade relations after the establishment of the Turkey-Korea Free Trade Agreement” and “political cooperation in the region and beyond” were analysed respectively.
“Cooperation Dialogue” meetings are expected to further strengthen the solid friendship between Turkish and South Korean people and to enlighten the policy makers on how to deepen the bilateral cooperation and dialogue in political, economic and social domains.
