24- 27 September 2012 Azerbaijan

“Turkey Week” hosted by the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was organized on 24- 27 September 2012 in Azerbaijan, successive to the activities of “Azerbaijan Week” realized in the cities of Trabzon, Erzurum, Iğdır, Kars and Konya on 25- 27 October 2011.

The Turkish delegation represented by Tülay Selamoğlu, Deputy of Ankara from the Justice and Development Party and headed by Prof. Dr. Bülent Aras, Chariman of SAM, consisted top-level bureaucrats from the Presidency of Turks Living Abroad and Related Communities, Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency, Prime Ministry’s Office of Public Diplomacy, as well as academics and experts from think-tanks.

Conferences entitled “From the Past to the Present Turkey-Azerbaijan Relations” and “Turkey-Azerbaijan Relations in the Regional Context” were held at the Gence, Lankeran and Nakhchivan State Universities within the framework of the program.

The Turkish delegation also met with authorities of the Agdam city and residents of Agdam who were displaced by the Armenian invasion.

The Turkish delegation met with Ramiz Pasayev, Rector of the Azerbaijan Diplomacy Academy at the Academy’s new compound where they received information about its activities and Ramiz Mehdiyev, Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Chairmans’ of both Center’s hold joint conferences in Baku, where the importance of co acting in line with the countries’ interests in international meetings was emphasized. Issues like enhancing the current cooperation and organizing events which help to better understand each other were underlined.

Activities continued with a visit to the Nakhchivan State University were Vice-Rector Hüseyin Rzayev gave detailed information about the University. Academicians from both countries expressed their views on Turkish foreign policy and Turkey- Azerbaijan relations at the conference entitled “Turkey’s and Azerbaijan’s Current Affairs: The Facts and Perspectives” subsequently. Cenk Ünal, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Nakhchivan, participated at the conference.
