Within the scope of the Turkish Chairmanship of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) for 2014-2015 by 1 July 2014, in an effort to discuss potential outputs for "Civil Society Days", with the participation of academic experts on migration and development and GFMD Turkish Chairmanship Task Force members, a joint workshop was held in cooperation with Directorate General for Consular Affairs (MFA) and Center for Strategic Research (SAM) on 13 November 2014 in Ankara.

As part of the workshop, it is emphasized that prior to the GFMD Head of States and Governments Summit, there will be thematic conferences entitled "Civil Society Days" with the participation of academic, media and business communities. The participants put forth several suggestions for conferences such as migrant workers, female labor, trafficking in human beings, diaspora experiences, migration as a tool for social transfer, attitudes of labor-employers associations towards irregular migration, health and legal issues. In addition, the Workshop in overall attached substantial importance to the inclusion of NGOs into GFMD.
