A workshop entitled “NATO’s Strategic Adaptation to the Current Challenges” was conducted by SAM in collaboration with Embassy of Poland in Ankara, on 19 April 2016. Opening speeches were delivered by Mr. Muharrem Turgut (Acting Head of Department, SAM) and Dr. Wojciech Zajączkowski (Director of Department of Foreign Policy Strategy, Poland Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
The two-session workshop brought together specialists and academics in an effort to analyse current challenges faced by NATO members and possible responses of NATO. In the first session, current challenges such as terrorism, Russia's assertiveness into Eastern Europe and Syria and nuclear proliferation facing NATO members were evaluated. In the second session, issues regarding security environment in the Eastern Europe, NATO's A2/AD capabilities, NATO's missile defense and the phenomenon of "hybrid war" were discussed in depth.
Participants shared their ideas and views and responded to various questions from each other during the Q&A session.
