Volume XIII Perceptions Winter 2008
This issue of our journal includes 5 articles. Ömer Göksel İşyar primarily addresses the management of international crises, with a specific focus on formulating strategies to achieve peaceful conflict resolution. He also examines the hypotheses that leadership qualities during crises are correlated with the outcomes of those crises. Seda Kırdar’s paper examines the conflict between Georgia and Russia by using two theoretical models: Intractable Conflict Theory and Governmental Politics Model. She also offers micro-policy recommendations to mitigate and manage the conflict. Fatma Aslı Kelkitli investigates Russian foreign policy in the South Caucasus from Vladimir Putin's initial inauguration as President of the Russian Federation in May 2000, until the end of the five-day war between Georgia and Russia that took place in August 2008. Aslı Süel traces the evolution of Euro-Mediterranean relations from the Barcelona Process to the Union for the Mediterranean. She discusses the slow progress during the Cold War era, the revitalization efforts post-bipolar structure, and the challenges faced by the Union for the Mediterranean, including institutional weaknesses and the impact of the Arab-Israeli conflict, which hinder cooperation prospects. Erhan Büyükakıncı analyzes the impact of external and internal factors on the political restructuring and decline of neo-Communist parties in Central Europe, focusing specifically on Poland and Hungary.
