Volume XX Summer 2015

This volume of Perceptions offers insightful analyses on various aspects of global politics through six valuable articles. The first article, authored by Burak Gülboy, delves into a Clausewitzian interpretation of the Great War, laying the groundwork for theoretical discourse on World War I and paving the way for subsequent articles to explore different historical perspectives on the war's early phases. Feroz Ahmad's second article, titled "The Unionist Failure to Stay out of the War in October – November 1914," extensively examines how the Ottoman Empire, under the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP), became involved in the war through negotiations with major powers. Gül Tokay's contribution provides a well-documented analysis of pre-World War I regional crises, suggesting they were early indicators of great power competition and Ottoman vulnerability. Odile Moreau offers a detailed overview of the Ottoman military's condition on the eve of the conflict. Lastly, Iskender Gilyazov's article, while not directly focused on Ottoman involvement, explores the First World War historiography of Russia, adding another dimension to the discussion.
